IN HER BONES
When an unexpected blizzard forces UC Berkeley first-year student Mia to wait out the storm at a rural highway gas station and general store in Southern Colorado, she’s forced to confront a past that she is both fleeing and seeking out. As she shares family memories with store owner Moises to pass the time, another world creeps in — one of shadows, forgotten prayers, and secrets hiding right in plain sight.
In this world premiere production, In Her Bones explores the complicated legacy of crypto-Judaism in the Southwest, illuminating an unlikely tale of secrecy, faith, fear, and how we pass on culture when written records are too dangerous to keep. Driven by a community-engaged, Colorado-based research process, this piece explores if our identities and rituals rise from earth and mountains where we spend our days, are inherited in the ancient stories of our blood, or are learned in the motions of mothers at sunset and overheard songs of grandparents.

BUS BAND TRIO
KJ Braithwaite, Joe Uveges and Jim Sokol make up the BUS. They have been performing on and off for years making laughter and harmony while they wow audiences with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young favorites. Braithwaite is a rock and rockabilly guitarist who feels guitar in the same way as Eric Clapton: less is more, and space makes the music speak. With numerous years of playing and three albums, he is also a fine songwriter. Uveges has become a fixture on the Colorado Springs music scene with five Gazette “Best of” honors, and publishing credits in film and with Goodnight Kiss Music. He has eight original albums released, the latest, “When the Smoke Clears,” recorded in Nashville with Stephanie Pauline.
Sokol has been part of four albums with Uveges including the critically-acclaimed “Up Please.” His voice could be Irish tenor, it could be Sting, it could be David Grey. He brings the percussion to this acoustic sound, as well as the occasional harmonica solo.

ÉLÉGIE WITH CELLISTA
This stage poem about serenity stars Cellista as Élégie, a blackbird who shape-shifts into human form and back. Élégie awakens one day in her magical tree outside the walled off city of Cloture to find its entire population has disappeared. In their departure, the citizens have left behind a city of altars, decorated with unlit candles; each containing the memories and mementos of the banished citizens. Élégie shape shifts into human form to find out what happened to Cloture’s disappeared. In her journey she finds serenity.
“Cellista is a unique artist. She pools her diverse talents together to combine into a captivating whole. From music to circus to visual art and the crafted word, Élégie is a full package experience, a feast for the audience.”
