Learn How to Pull Off an Accent Wall!
An accent wall can be the perfect way to accentuate heirloom furniture, an architectural feature, or just break up naked wall space in your home. Here are some tips, how-too, ideas and inspiration about how to pull off a budget-friendly accent wall with future-proof potential!
Wondering which wall should be an accent wall? Typically, the first wall you see when entering a room, or the most architecturally interesting wall (featuring built-ins, a fireplace, etc.) could be the accent wall you pull off with paint, panels, embellishments and more.
Paint an Amazing Accent Wall
Paint on a wall doesn’t have to be super daring to be attention-getting. The design you paint can be transformational. Pam Lostracco happens to be a muralist and created a mountain scape with calm colors of paint that draws you in for a closer look and changes the look and feel of her bedroom. Even if you’re not a muralist, you can apply painter’s tape and use a paintbrush to achieve an eye-popping look with a flat wall and colorful paint.
Which Accent Colors Go With Gray?
HGTV has a few answers for you with illustrative examples that add purple, yellow, and blue into color schemes that are predominately gray. Home Edit showcases different and daring accent walls, some with paint, some with wood, some with both, but our favorite might be the chalkboard wall that doubles as the backdrop for an art display and photo gallery in a kitchen.
Bold and Beautiful Accents
Just taking a bold color like Alexandra of Ave Styles did, made a deep teal paint color the dominant look-at-me wall of her bedroom.
Check out all the timeless teal colors tending on Pinterest, and play with Pantone color finder if you’re looking for the perfect accent wall color to complement the neutrals in your room.

Try Tantalizing Textures
If you have a fireplace in a major room (or even a minor one!) that’s easily an accent wall and maybe all it needs is striking, one-of-a-kind mantel, like the ones hand-carved by Darek Sokol! His work is showcased at WoodenAccents.net, a company with clients from Castle Rock to Colorado Springs. Darek is a woodworker who makes custom hand-carved furniture, mantels and accent pieces that you won’t find anywhere else!
Plant Fibers and Pallets
Textured wall coverings from Wall Décor 3D come in panels made of plant fibers that quickly cover a wall and add dimension and visual interest and can be painted or not. Wood pallets have been reclaimed, repurposed and reused to make everything from garden planters and furniture to dog houses and clocks.
Libby, a blogger at Home Talk, took a stack of pallets and stained them six different colors, then nailed them to a wall in her kitchen. The project cost her less than $50, took a day and she says was easy to achieve! Check out the Pallet Buyers Guide to find assorted pallets available in Colorado.

How Long Till It’s Dry?
The rule of thumb for oil-based paint is six to eight hours — ready for another coat in 24; and latex paint is usually dry to the touch in about an hour and ready to re-coat in four.
