It’s a Jazzy and Classical Mother’s Day Weekend!

Treat Mom to her favorite kind of music—there’s plenty to choose from with big band, jazz and classical concerts in town! Or maybe a new cultural experience would be a great way to show Mom you care, with a Passport to Paradise or a trip to the Highland’s Ranch Farmer’s Market! There’s also a 5K run and a hilarious family-friendly comedy show, so take your pick this weekend near Castle Rock!

STEVE SIMEONE PERFORMS LIVE!
When is the last time you heard a comedian who had a positive approach, who knew how to get laughs without having to trash someone? If this is your kind of comedy, you must see Steve Simone in his stand-up show!

Simeone developed his unique high-energy approach to storytelling by competing for laughs with his two brothers around the family dinner table. His positive, family-friendly approach to comedy has delighted audiences around the world and made him a regular at Hollywood’s most prestigious comedy clubs. Simeone has made multiple performances on Comedy Central’s storytelling show, This Is Not Happening.

BIG BAND CONCERT
Enjoy an exciting big band jazz concert featuring the music of Duke Ellington and Count Basie, performed by the renowned Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra, Colorado’s best musicians of classic big band and modern large ensemble jazz! Swing along to jazz standards such as It Don’t Mean a Thing if It Ain’t Got that Swing and Prelude to a Kiss.

Also on the program are selections from CJRO’s upcoming Stevie Wonder recording project, including My Cherie Amour and Living for the City. Don’t miss your chance to see the group that sells out houses all over Colorado and wins rave reviews at jazz festivals. CJRO will entertain jazz-lovers with tunes from the libraries of Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington, Maynard Ferguson, and many more.

GRIEG PIANO CONCERTO
The all-volunteer Parker Symphony Orchestra is back with another inspiring concert, this time celebrating the legendary work of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. DU’s Heidi Leathwood joins the Parker Symphony for a spectacular and passionate performance of Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor. 

The program will also include other melodic and inspiring Scandinavian pieces to create the perfect homage to that region of the world. Don’t miss this finale of the classical music season at the PACE Center!

RISING JAZZ STAR
A former child prodigy, jazz musician Julian Lage’s talents continue to grow. Catch him with the Julan Lage Trio, where his virtuosity on the guitar will astound you! The group plays a repertoire that spans a variety of genres, as well as Lage’s breathtaking original compositions. His unflappable technical skills, combined with an insatiably curious mind, make for a brilliant and enjoyable musical experience.

One talented actor plays the parts of Sam and all the callers in this zany one-act play.

MOTHER’S DAY 5K RUN/WALK

PIANO VIRTUOSO STACEY ROSE
Denver native Stacey Rose has carved out a name for herself in the classical music world with her unique combination of virtuosity, beauty of tone, and musical sincerity. Audiences all over the world have been mesmerized by her graceful musicianship in solo recitals, as a soloist in an orchestra, and as a chamber music collaborator.

This is your chance to hear the dulcet tones and resonant clarity of this masterful pianist on her home turf. As a composer, she has received enthusiastic response to her performances of original works. This performance will be a solo recital program of original compositions, representing Rose’s contemporary conceptions of traditional musical forms.

SLEUTH – A MURDER MYSTERY PLAY!
This classic cat-and-mouse thriller is a two-man play that will keep you guessing until the very end. When mystery writer Andrew Wyke invites his wife’s lover, Milo, to his country estate, a battle of wits quickly turns into a sinister game—or is it real? 

Allow yourself to be transported to the land of English-murder-mysteries, and you, too, may fall under its spell! Sleuth won the 1971 Tony Award for Best Play. Presented by Vintage Theatre Productions, this performance is directed by Bernie Cardell and stars Mark Ribald and Brandon Palmer.
