It’s a great weekend to be active in the Castle Rock area! The Rumble at the Rock Pickleball Tournament showcases the fastest growing sport in the country, and not far away is a Dance Fitness event in the park with glow sticks, where you can Zumba under the stars, come on out! With plenty of family-friendly activities, everyone will find something fun to do this weekend near Crystal Valley!

CARMEN THE TANGO
You’ve heard of Carmen the Opera, but what about Carmen the Tango? The famous story is even more steamy in the form of the sensual dance! Parasol Arts is a professionally-operated nonprofit organization for dancers, musicians, vocalists, and creative artists who share a love of the art of Argentine Tango—and once you see what they do, you’ll be hooked, too!

Their performance tells the story of a love triangle between Carmen, a free spirited gypsy, Don Jose, a temperamental soldier, and the bullfighter Escamillo. Without giving the story away, there are plenty of melodramatic twists and turns, bursts of passion, and of course, life-and-death fight scenes. All while dancing!

The smooth, sultry voice like no other—that’s Nat King Cole! This concert is a fitting tribute to  the master of jazz vocals. Robert Johnson and the CJRO Sextet celebrate the 100th birthday of Nat King Cole with their performance of legendary hits like Nature Boy, Unforgettable, and When I Fall In Love.

OKTOBERFEST 5K RUN/WALK
This family-friendly 5K traverses a mixed trail of sidewalks and dirt paths—well suited for all ability levels! As part of the “Kettlebell Cash” Series, a blue kettlebell will be hidden somewhere out on the course—and whoever finds it and brings it to the finish line will win $100!

STOP! IN THE NAME OF LOVE
The power behind this one-of-a-kind Diana Ross tribute is the voice of Mary Louise Lee. A local legend in her own right, Lee returns after last season’s sold-out tribute to Aretha Franklin to bring the songs of Diana Ross to life on stage in Lone Tree.  

Diana Ross and the Supremes were Motown’s leading female stars back in the 1960s, with hits like Baby Love, Someday We’ll Be Together, and Stop in the Name of Love. An incredibly versatile artist, Ross continued her solo career into the disco era (I’m Coming Out) and played Dorothy in the film version of The Wiz. Her hit ballads from the ‘70s and ‘80s include Theme From Mahogany and Endless Love. You’ll be singing along with every song!

CHILDREN’S THEATER
The delightful children’s book, Busytown by Richard Scarry, comes to life in this stage adaptation that includes all of your children’s favorite animal characters. Join Huckle Cat as he strolls through Busytown, meeting up with neighbors like Farmer Pig and Grocer Cat, who work together to bring food to the town. The vibrant singing and dancing and magical puppetry will entertain the whole family! Recommended for ages 3 and up.
