If there’s one thing that’s obvious from all the designers weighing in on what will be on trend in the next decade, it’s that anything goes. Ten years ago you would NOT have seen the explosion of color and pattern and texture that seems pervasive on Instagram and Pinterest in 2020. It’s as if dramatic colors, murals and wallpaper have become the go-to trend for bathrooms, accent walls and entire rooms — but you’ll still find subtle neutrals, too.

Vintage accents went around once and they’re back for seconds, according to Good Housekeeping. There seems to be a nod toward vintage details, especially one or two statement pieces from the early 1900s. Vintage accents are another way of reclaiming, repurposing and recycling items that are languishing in a second-hand store or flea market.
Shapes and Storage Trends
Architectural Digest reports on what a handful of designers appear interested in – personally — and if that resonates with a consumer, they’re more than happy to compare notes. Estudia Persona, an LA-based design studio gravitates toward “blockier” furniture. Sturdy, geometric shapes that are still comfortable, but more assertive.
This one resonates with us: beautiful wall storage, because let’s face it. Storage isn’t something that’s intrinsically beautiful, but if you’re looking for a place to store things you regularly need access to, the walls have it.
Dwell says that fat furniture is in, as well as free-form shapes and motifs from light fixtures and artwork to chairs and sofas.
Kitchen and Bathroom Trends for 2020
White kitchens seem to be oh-so-2010. The non-white kitchen is making an entrance so you can expect to see a shift toward more natural wood cabinets, islands and shelves, all of which let us keep a bright airy vibe without a lot of stark whiteness.
House Beautiful forecasts that mixed metals and customized baths will be making a showing this year, with brass, and bronze easily mixing with polished nickel.

Southern Living is adamant: you will see tiled bathroom aprons, double-floating vanities and somewhere to sit – other than the toilet in 2020 interiors.
Clean minimalistic looks are in, and given this trend it should be no surprise that designers are looking to Japanese influences for cues.
