How to Use Pantone’s Color of the Year
Interior designers, clothes stylists and even manufacturers of home goods hold their collective breath every year to learn which color Pantone is going to select as the Color of the Year. Pantone’s recent announcement of its 2018 color, Ultra Violet, has inspired a purple upswing in light fixtures, appliances, furniture and more.
“I was surprised at the choice,” says Castle Rock interior designer Heather Sheridan of the Decorating Den.
“Last year the Pantone Color of the Year was Greenery – that one I understood. It’s a soothing color, calming – it’s right there with the blues,” Heather says. “But purple is a very bold and energetic color. You can definitely get a psyche jolt from it!”
This year’s audacious shade of purple — say the researchers at Pantone’s Color Institute — communicates “originality, ingenuity, and the visionary thinking we are seeking to create a meaningful direction for our future.”

How to Use Ultra Violet
Heather’s suggestion for homeowners who want to integrate a bit Ultra Violet energy into their living spaces is to consider painting an accent wall, and then complement it with artwork or accessories. “That way it’s not so overwhelming,” she said.
“Some of my clients who want to switch things out when they need an inexpensive change of pace will opt for pillows and an area rug. Both can change the look of a room and using that color of purple complemented by splashes of green would invigorate a space,” Heather says.
“With lots of artwork and fabrics to choose from with bits of purple in them,” she adds, “you can also enjoy that great color in small doses!”
Huffington Post offers a few clever ways to rock the 2018 Color of the Year in your home — from Pier 1’s bath towels and purple stemware (Colorado Springs and Lone Tree locations) to a $33 area rug from All Modern.
