Shear Madness, the longest-running play in the history of American theatre is now in Colorado. This hysterical whodunit is set in a not-so-typical hair salon and the audience gets in on the act by questioning the actors to help solve the crime. No wonder the performances vary every time!

Live entertainmentTHE HORSES ARE BACK!
The Grand Re-Opening of the Bell Mountain Ranch Equestrian Center is a free event with family- friendly activities, including food trucks, games, kids’ inflatables, a petting zoo, pony rides, roping demonstrations, local vendors, a drawing for free lessons and special discounts on riding lessons. Firefly, a country opening act for LeAnn Rimes, Martina McBride and Pam Tillis, will provide live entertainment.

PALMER LAKE CRAFT FAIR
The Palmer Lake Art Group’s 43rd annual arts and crafts fair features original hand-crafted items created by regional artisans. You can shop for pottery, a variety of jewelry, fashion accessories, gift items, quilts and more. Proceeds from the sale benefit Art Scholarship for District 38 High School Seniors.

ELITCH GARDENS FRIGHT BY NIGHT!
If riding rides and being scared is your favorite live entertainment combo platter, go to Elitch Gardens after dark and you’ll find creepy creatures, everywhere! It’s all part of the three new, multi-sensory haunted attractions: No Vacancy, Big Top Freaks and Séance. Try to make your way through a carnival graveyard overrun by menacing clowns, and along dark footpaths dodging gaggles of ghouls!

MONTY PYTHON MUSICAL

STINKY CHEESE?!?
Characters from a variety of children’s classic storybook fables are hilariously depicted in The Stinky Cheese Man, a musical adaptation by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. These fractured fairy tales give stories like Chicken Little and The Gingerbread Man a complete makeover. Toe-tapping music and witty narration accompany inarticulate giants, sassy barnyard animals, colossal cow pies and enough stinky cheese to please everyone!

WATER TOY RACE!
The DTC Rotary Club will hold the first annual Water Toy Race featuring four-person relay teams using stand-up paddleboards, sit-on-top kayaks and an obstacle course.

Prizes will be awarded to the fastest team, best costumes and the group that’s the most fun to watch. All water toys and safety gear will be provided. Everyone over 14 years of age is invited to participate.

HELP PAINT A HOUSE
A fresh coat of paint can give a peeling house a much-needed facelift. But painting a home can be a huge chore, especially for the elderly and those who are physically or financially unable to do it themselves. Grab a brush and join Castle Rock Fire and Rescue during the annual Castle Rock Paint-A-Thon for needy citizens.

Volunteers can sign up online and will receive water, snacks and lunch. All materials needed for the project will be provided. By the way parents, time spent volunteering can be used to meet community service hours required by local schools!

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AT OKTOBERFEST!
Oktoberfest has something for everyone from bounce houses, German dancers, face painters and live music from German bands, to college football games (courtesy of Xfinity), food trucks and a variety of beer and other adult beverages. If you’re planning to enter one of the stein hoisting contests, check out these tips from the pros. Guests are encouraged to check parking guides, wear comfortable shoes (the event is big!) and to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

The breweries represented this year include Erdinger, Lone Tree, Rockyard, Blue Spruce, Barnett & Son, Pikes Peak, Empyrean, Horny Goat and Northwest. Beer tasting is a great way to discover new craft beers and here’s a quick how-to-guide. By the way, Medved, the event sponsor, will provide a free shuttle service from the event to any Castle Rock address. Crystal Valley is also proud to be the stage sponsor for this event, so don’t miss it!
