Neighborhood Profile: Rocket Fizz!
For the hard-working owners of Rocket Fizz in Castle Rock, it was the combination of life circumstances plus vintage candies and more than 150 flavors of bottled sodas, that helped them decide on a business to pour their energies into.
Lance and Stephanie Monahan wanted to plug into an enterprise guaranteed to trigger feel-good memories and pleasurable new experiences. Candy fans “of a certain age” will remember Chiclets and Necco wafers, Big Hunks and Goo-Goo Clusters and those sweet treats – and many more — are on display everywhere at Rocket Fizz. Soda lovers can grab a bottle of traditional fruit and cola sodas or try unique flavors like key lime pie and even Buffalo hot wings soda.
Why a Candy and Pop Shop?
The Monahans started the candy and pop shop after two life-changing events. Lance was laid off from his job in 2015 and shortly after had a serious medical scare.
“I came out of that pretty grateful to be alive and started thinking about ways to create more security for my family but also by doing something that was fun,” Lance said. “If those two events hadn’t happened, I doubt we ever would have looked into Rocket Fizz.”
Lance and Stephanie happened across the popular retail chain with more than 100 locations nationwide featuring nostalgic candies and sodas and liked the theme. “I liked the nostalgic feel to it, plus I love candy and it fit my personality,” Lance says.
With hundreds of varieties of candy and bottled soda from all over the world, the Monahans opened their first store in Parker and two years later, started Rocket Fizz in Castle Rock.
Blast from the Past
“What sets us apart is our retro atmosphere and so many different novelty items,” Lance says. “From old movie and concert posters to vintage tin signs — that’s what really attracted me — you feel like you’re stepping back into the 1950s or 1960s. It gives me joy to see items that make people smile, whether they’re in their 40s, 60s or even 80s,” he says.
Lance often hears people who walk into the store exclaim, “I didn’t know they still made this!”, or “I haven’t seen this for 20 years!”.
With the largest selection of both modern and nostalgic confections and sodas to be found in a single store, you can pick up almost any candy EVER made at Rocket Fizz and buy bulk candy for special events. Located across from the Outlets of Castle Rock, you’ll find great gift ideas, as well, for any occasion.
“We can put together a pretty decent, and unique, gift basket that anyone will love for $25-$30,” Lance says.
